Los Osos

The jewel and best kept secret on the Scenic Coast is Los Osos.  The Chamber of Commerce states that the community of Los Osos shares the Morro Bay Estuary (the back-bay) and is surrounded by thousands of acres of State Parks, nature preserves, historical sites, agricultural open space and State Reserves.  Los Osos is only three miles from Morro Bay but far off the beaten tourist track.

Los Osos is home to ‘Sweet Springs Nature Preserve’ a 24 acre park. Trails lead around two freshwater ponds and around a salt marsh to the edge of Morro Bay.  Birds are attracted to the variety of habitats in the preserve. It is also where the Monarch Butterflies vacation during the months of October thru March.  Another one of their favorite places is the Monarch Grove which neighbors the Sea Pines Golf Resort.

Along the Morro Bay Estuary shoreline is an Audubon Overlook located on Santa Lucia and 4th Street.  Hundreds of species of birds live or winter in the Morro Bay Estuary area.  It’s a great place to see ducks, egrets and pelicans.

Montana de Oro is one of the most beautiful places with miles of unpopulated rocky shores and sandy beaches acres of hills, and eucalyptus groves.  It offers hiking, biking, and equestrian trails provide access to the park’s back-country, wooded stream canyons, tide pools, and hidden coves and outstanding surfing beaches.

If you enjoy walks on the beach, walks with your dog in dog-friendly neighborhoods, golfing, nature hiking, horseback riding, bicycling, and weekly Farmers’ Market.  Then Los Osos is the place for you.

This photo shows the Morro Bay Estuary from the deck of a Los Osos home located on Santa Lucia and 1st Street. You would also have a same view from the living room. From your living room you could watch birds that live or winter here and it the evenings you’d enjoy awesome sunsets. This property was recently listed by our company and is a contemporary 3 bedroom, 2 bath home with lovely gardens and spectacular views. This is a ‘Short Sale’ listed at 892k.
